DAY 1 Shuttle — Vancouver to Ranch — Historical and Cultural Tour of BC’s Fraser Canyon
On Chilcotin Holidays’ shuttle bus from the Guildford Sheraton Hotel in Surrey, BC (approximately a 5-hour drive), you’ll travel along Hwy. 1 — the gateway to north and east British Columbia — into the Fraser Canyon and learn about the beginning of the historic Gold Rush Trail. This scenic mountainous highway has been traversed by many travellers on foot, horse, rail, and vehicle and dates back to the first native peoples, fur traders, gold seekers, the building of the Canadian National Railway in the early 1900s, to the early pioneers that cleared and settled the land. It’s an enlightening and thoroughly educational ride to Gold Bridge where you’ll begin your incredible wilderness adventure.
After a midday ranch meal, your group will receive a thorough orientation of the area, trails, and mountains so you’re ready for your first hike to Mowson’s Bluff. Upon your return, you have time to freshen up for dinner.
During your stay, when you’re not enjoying open-air lunches in secluded alpine basins, you’ll dine on our legendary western fare for breakfast and dinner from the ranch kitchen. Satisfy your newly discovered appetite on unlimited fresh fruit and vegetables, delicious and hearty main courses, with lots of homemade baking.
Guests frequently ask for a copy of our recipes to take home with them! Some favorites include lasagna, meatloaf, tomato salad with balsamic and olive oil dressing, chick pea and spinach salad, oatmeal raisin cookies, and butter tart squares. Simply delicious!
DAY 2 and DAY 3
After breakfast on days 2 and 3, your group has many 4–6 hour hike options to choose from, depending on the month. Starting as early as May, hike Jewel Bridge to the Spruce Lake grasslands, Beaver Pond Loop, Brett Valley, Tyax Creek — for a wonderful display of wildflowers, and to the pioneer mine at Bonanza.
From July through September other hikes trails become accessible such as Truaxe, Taylor Mine Road, Pearson Mine Road, Liza Valley, Brett Valley, Noel Creek, and McGillivray Pass.
On the last day of your 4-Day Ranch-Based Hiking Trip, you can fit one more hike in before your 1 pm departure on our shuttle bus back to Vancouver. Choose from hiking Lover’s Bluff Loop to get an excellent aerial view of the ranch, an Upper River Hike, or Lower River Hike.
